How to migrate from Mac and iPad OneNote to iPad Outline

Last Updated: Oct 13, 2016 03:31AM PDT

It's also easy to work with your Mac OneNote notebooks: open the notebooks directly from cloud and sync or make them local to work only in Outline or to move them to another cloud.

a) Work with your cloud notebooks from PC OneNote located in OneDrive:

    1. Log in your OneDrive account in Settings > Synchronisation > OneDrive;

    2. Open your OneDrive notebooks - tap"+" at the top of the notebooks list > Open from OneDrive > select the notebook.

Another scenario is when you want to work with your notebooks locally. Here is how you can make your Mac OneNote notebooks local in iPad Outline.

b) Work with your Mac OneNote notebooks locally:

    1. Log in your OneDrive account in Settings > Synchronisation > OneDrive;

    2. Open your OneDrive notebooks - tap "+" at the top of the notebooks list > Open from OneDrive > select the notebook.

    3. Now there are two workarounds of how to make your OneDrive notebook local in iPad Outline:

    - You can change its format to Outline: double-tap the notebook's cover > Properties > Format > Outline.
      This notebook will be local in your iPad Outline. You will be able to change its format to OneNote back again through the same procedure as described above.

    - Or you can send this notebook to iTunes and then open it: double-tap the notebook's cover > Export > iTunes  and open this notebook: tap "+" at the top of the notebooks list > Open from iTunes.
    This notebook will be local in your iPad Outline.

Please note that apart from your Mac, iPad doesn't keep the copies of local notebooks in its system. If you close the local notebook in iPad Outline, it will be lost: make sure you have the backups enabled when working with local notebooks on iPad.
