Code Snippets/Syntax Highlighting

Brad Jun 18, 2015 12:00PM PDT

I am a web developer and often like to jot down code snippets and ideas while taking notes. This can be a real hassle, as there really aren't any note taking apps that really support code snippets or syntax highlighting. I would love the freedom to take notes with Outline and add code snippets as needed. Maybe Git Flavored Markdown support would help to make this possible.

Hello, I agree with Brand.

I often add code text to my notebooks in a variety of languages (SQL, C, etc.). I select the "code" style for such text but currently is quite useless. It would be nice for "code" style to color syntax ad use a different font and size.
Even beter, if features such as font, size and syntax style coloring could be customized for each language. Such customization could be set either for a single notebook or as default for all notebooks.

Hi Marco,

Thanks for reaching out!

You are right, there appears to be a bug in the "code" text style, so the style doesn't currently work. Please accept our apologies for this inconvenience. I have passed your comments to the team and we will work to fix this bug.

I've also noted your request for setting default font, size, and syntax style customization for a notebook. Thanks for your suggestion!

Hmm, checked out Outline recently, noticed as well the useless code style (not even monospace formatted), reading here that the code style currently is buggy and months later it's still not fixed. Doesn't make me confident in purchasing Outline. Looks rather I would have to live with trivial bugs for months...

Hi Ab,

Thanks for reaching out!

We have this feature suggestion in our list.
Currently we've stopped at analysing the third party open sources that we can use to implement the proper code style.
And I think the actual work will be faster to finish after we'll release the editable fonts feature.
So here how it will go: first the feature with the general fonts, and then we will start working on the special code font.

Hi AlenaZ
I also miss the code highlighting feature as suggested by brad. For me it would be realy helpfull to have some highlighted Code in my Notes (HTML, JS, Python, etc.)

I think it definitely will be the feature we will write about.

Please add my "+1" to the votes for custom fonts and/or code formatting. This is very important!

+1 to monospaced code styling
I see that there is a Code style, but it doesn't work, I have to use citation style in order to even get close to make something that resembles a code style.

It has been more than 12 months since this request. I understand supporting color markup for multiple languages would be a headache, but most of us would settle for just a change in font/color/size. If we had custom style management, it would be amazing.

It's June 2018 and the code style still does nothing useful...

d'accord avec l'idée de pouvoir rédige en markdown et de pouvoir quelque soit la manière, mettre du code avec de la coloration syntaxique.

I too would love code/syntax highlighting. It's the only thing preventing me from using outline.
