Dear team, There currently is a significant lag when using the pencil with Outline as compared to other apps. Will this be adressed? I like your app most for note taking but need to be able to use the pencil without lag. Thanks!
Same here. Actually it's more than just lagging: - when writing with Apple Pencil it does not show every stroke at first, all of a sudden, it's there - it cannot be written on about a 2cm border (form top to bottom on the left) - App crashes or freezes contantly - App crashes when using arrow keys on the logitech keyboard - Overall performance quite slow
Hope that these issues can be fixed in a later release.
When you put down the pen and start writing it takes about 1/4 to 1/2 of a second for Outline to recognize it. Anything written in the quarter second doesn't show up. If you handwriting has a lot of quick individual strokes you loose up to half of every stroke.

Thanks for getting in touch.
May I ask, are you talking about lag issues or some of the other issues mentioned by other users above? We do expect to see improvements when it comes to handwriting in the next update (coming soon). Please stay tuned.
What's the latest with fixing the Apple Pencil lag issues?
The best way to describe/experience the problem is to try and handwrite in Outline with the Apple Pencil, and then immediately switch to Apple Notes and do the same thing there. The difference is night and day - Apple Notes is almost like writing on paper.

Thanks for reaching out!
And the current status is as follows: we will start our work as soon as we're back to the office this Monday. I cannot say how much time we will need to finish everything, but at least the work is already planned.
And thank you for the suggestion! I will definitely test it!
I would love to have the same feeling with the Apple Pencil like the pencil in AppleNotes. This nearly natural feeling of tilting a real pencil and drawing on a rough paper surface is so great - especially for taking handwritten notes.
Same problem here! I keep trying and trying to like this app because it has just a few things that I prefer over OneNote, BUT my use of OneNote / Outline is entirely predicated on annotating PDFs for study purposes (ie. adding handwritten notes to lecture slides, etc) and the lag makes it totally unusable for this purpose.
The lag with an Apple Pencil is still prohibitive: the app is - with respect to drawing, scribbling, doodling and handwriting - totally unusable. This is terribly unfortunate, as I find Outline quite nice otherwise, and I would have gladly switched from other note-taking apps to Outline. But not being able to properly use the pencil is quite a show stopper.
I almost bought the Mac app. Fortunately I didn't :(
Sorry, you guys do a good job, but as long as you are not able to fix something many other note apps have no troubles with, I'm leaving.
Can you guys fix the Apple Pencil. It's still laggy and unsmooth. I love the app it's fantastic but you guys need to get the pencil down! It's been a year at least and the pencil function is just awful.
I think you guys have a better app then onenote but the lack of integrating the Apple Pencil is unfortunate.
Please sort this out! The pencil is what makes the iPad Pro amazing!
It looks like this has been an issue for two years and I'm still having trouble with handwriting with the Apple Pencil, which is a bit silly since it's the peripheral that's most optimally designed to work with the iPad Pro.
I'm deciding whether or not to buy the Macbook app and this is going to be a key deciding factor here
I have the same issues using the pencil! In handwriting mode often dots are not recognised. Further, the writing is blurred and not very precise. Compared to OneNote this app is far away from being good for notes taking with the pencil.
And if I use the Notes App from Apple, only machine text is exported to Outline - no handwriting.
And if you use screen protectors like "Paperlike" the recognition of the pencil is even worse in Outline. In the OneNote there is no effect of the protector.
I have experienced that using the drawing mode the recognition of the pencil is much better. But I can't use it because the palm rejection is not very good. I do not understand why there is a difference in the recognition between drawing and handwriting mode.
I wish I had found this forum before buying the app...
When do you plan to fix this issue? And please do not tell us again with the next update. I would really appreciate an answer which is more concrete.
Since there has been zero response in 16 months to public questions about Apple Pencil, I guess we must assume they've either been stumped and have no idea how to fix it so they are just ignoring the customer's complaints, or they don't care anymore and are just ignoring customer complaints.

Hello Carson, thank you for your notice and your patience. We do read every letter from our users, however, not eahc and every task gets on our list due to the lack of time/limited budget. The Apple Pencil support is an important issue, but the fare share of people using it in Outline is rather small. In the past couple of years we haven't updated the app much. I assure you, it is time ti change that. We are going to divert our attention to new features and bug fixing this year. I will make sure Apple Pemsil support gets the discussion list for our team. We are sorry it causes you inconveniences!
