Suggested Features from Circus Ponies NB.

Miro Apr 18, 2016 01:38AM PDT

I'm happy you have announced the new features like import of the Circus Ponies Notebook files.
There are more CP notebook features I'm missing - just few of them:
- work with outlines in CP style - expanding, collapsing, moving, ...
- ability to attach just the the link to the file, not entire contents.
- Automatic TOC and Multidex.

Thanks and wish you good luck.

Hi Miro,

Thank you for your suggestions!

The option to collapse/expand lists (outlines) is in our 'wish list', as well as automatic TOC, and I've recorded your votes for these features. We'll consider adding theses features in future updates.

As for the ability to attach just the the link to the file, not entire contents -- thank you for bringing this up. Actually, you can already do it with the following workaround: please try adding a link (file path) that starts with "file:///" to your notes. One easy way to do this is by dragging the file from the Finder to a Browser address bar and it will enter the file path, which you can then copy and paste into Outline notes. This way, you'll be able to open the original file (not the attachment), make changes to it, and then save the changes. Try it, does it work?

The feature of links to files (like CircusPonies), rather than the entire contents would be useful. Even better would be if Outline could implement it the way Journler did/does. That program uses a clever trick with native Mac OS aliases to keep track of the file even if you move it.

Thanks for your comment!

I will take a closer look at Journler app to get the idea of their feature.
Then I'll be able to bring it to the team for discussion.

However if we plan to implement it, it can only get to the release plans for the next year now.
We have everything booked already for December.

I frequently share my notes to others via PDF.
I would really like to have the option to be able to include an automatically generated TOC to the printout

Thanks in advance

Hi Jan-Willem,

Thanks for reaching out!

Is this request about automatic TOC?
As at the moment you can attach the TOC manually: click / tap the "+" icon on the edit bar on Mac / on the right side of the page on iOS > Insert TOC.
Have you tried this option?
