Re-order Notebooks

Simon Jul 22, 2016 04:48AM PDT

I have created several notebooks and would like to change their order of appearance in the left pane. May I know how to do it?

Hi Simon,

Apparently you can not change the order of notebooks withing the app yet because of cloud storages limitations.
We are planning to implement this feature in our next versions till the end of this year.

Now I'm writing down your vote for this feature!

And here is a quick trick for you on how to re-order using one of the supported clouds (Dropbox, Box, iCloud, OneDrive): make sure all of your notebooks are synched (check by taping / clicking on the notebook cover > Properties > Location); then close the notebooks and re-open them from the clouds in the order you want (use the "Open from" button).

Do you think this workaround will be useful for you?

Hi AlenaZ,

Thanks for the advice. I am looking forward to the next version. Meanwhile, I would suggest you add the function for changing the tab order in a notebook as well.

Hi Simon,

Thanks for the answer!

And you can change the tab / section order in current Outline version as well:
- tap the tab / section header (in the notebooks list on the left or at the top of your notebook page);
- choose the "cut" option from drop down menu;
- tap another section, select "paste section".

The sections can be moved from one notebook to another this way.
Try it! Does it work for you?
