opening a notebook

Howie Nov 21, 2016 01:58PM PST

Here's a user interface anomaly:

File/Open Notebook in the menu brings up a Finder window to open a Local, Dropbox or Box notebook.

To open any of those three, or iCloud, WebDAV, OneDrive the user has to click on + to the right of 'NOTBOOKS' in the Tree.

This makes *no* sense to me. The File/Open Notebook option should allow the user the same options as the + in the Tree.

The first rule of technical writing and design is to remain consistent throughout the user experience.

Hi Howie,

Thanks for reaching out!

And you are right, the option works only for local notebooks.
I've never actually used it to open the notebooks, but now I see.

I will bring it to the team meeting tomorrow.
Maybe there is some explanation to this mystery.

I will write to you shortly with information I'll get!

I'm a stickler for following OS protocol. Keeping both the intra-app AND inter-app user experience consistent is of primary importance, IMHO.

What then sets the difference between apps? Functionality, stability, cleanliness, price and customer service.

We've discussed the mismatch you've found:

And sure, we need to just add all the other sync options to File > Open menu.
Turned out we didn't use it ourselves and abandoned it for some time.

To be clear, it's not Sync Options that I'm addressing. It's Open Notebook *from* options that, IMHO, also needs to be in the menu bar and not 'hidden' within the user interface.

Thank you for your comment!

And yes, I got your point.
I will add this topic to my Big Reminders list and will bring it to the next version planning.
I hope we will be able to fix it for the next version. Or the one after the next.

I will write to you when we finish.
