New UI feature of importing CPN notebooks does not work

Gyorgy Vizkelethy Jan 03, 2017 02:56PM PST

I was happy to see that finally I can click on a menu item and import CPN notebooks. First of all I does not seem to be able to select individual notebooks, it seems that Outline wants to import an entire folder. The second problem is that it does not work at all. I selected a source folder (with CPN notebooks), selected a destination folder (empty), and clicked on import. The only thing happened was a red error message "contents not found", nothing else.

Hi George,

Thanks for reaching out!

And you are right - with UI import window it's only possible to import one notebook in a time.
If you need to import all in once, you can still use the Terminal method.

We just needed to choose one option - speed of import or comfortable interface.
Additionally, when importing the notebooks one by one, the chance to get an error is less.

Could you please try to run the import choosing the folder of only one of your notebooks?

I guess you did not read my post carefully enough. I cannot select a notebook when I click on import CPN. Outline does not allow me to select a notebook, they are all greyed out. The only thing I can do is to select the entire folder where the notebooks are.

Oh, I apologise for confusion!

Do you select the folder with HTML exported notebook?
We still cannot export .nb files to HTML on our own, so you need to open the notebook in Circus Ponies > File > Export as a Website > To Disk:

Then in Outline select the folder with all the exported files.
Here how it needs to look like:

In case you select the folder with HTML files and still receive an error, please write to me.
I will come up with some other ideas.

OK, it worked. But somewhere it should be mentioned that Outline import the Web version of CPN notebooks, because the menu item just says import CPN notebook. It is misleading.

I'm glad it worked!

And sure, we've already thought about adding some kind of note in this CP import window.
And we'll make the special articles for Portal and User Guide too.

Feel free to write if there are any other questions!
