moving to windows - darn

Drew Clader Feb 16, 2017 01:55PM PST

My company was acquired and i'm forced to go back to windows and use only approved microsoft products. I need to migrate back to OneNote.

Still working on a Mac for now, I'm trying to launch the .one and .onetoc2 files with OneNote and getting the message:

"The document xxx.onetoc2 cannot be opened. OneNote cannot open files of this type"

This happens with .onetoc2 and .one files. I do have them all formatted as OneNote and not Outline.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!!

Hi Drew,

Thanks for reaching out!
And I'm sorry you need to go back to PC.

What about this error message, I think you receive it because Mac OneNote cannot process local notebooks at all.
So there are two variants for you: you can move the local notebook to PC and open it in OneNote from there or you can upload your notebook to OneDrive.
Which one is easier for you?

Moving notebook to OneDrive on Mac isn't as easy as we would like it be, here is the brief instruction:
- go to onenote.com and start new notebook;
- in Outline open this notebook with "+" at the top of notebooks pane > Open from OneDrive;
- then drag&drop the sections from your local notebook that you want to move to PC to this newly created OneDrive notebook;
- sync.
