Share Extension on Mac

Steve Cisler May 02, 2017 06:34PM PDT

I have Outline checked in the Extensions Preferences but I do not see Outline in the Share menu when I select Share on a PDF file. How do I send a file to Outline via Share?

Can you please try Services > Send to Outline? Does it do the job?

What 'Services' are you talking about? Within Apple's System Preferences > Extensions I have Outline's 'Share Menu' check marked.

Talking about 'Services' in the right-click menu of a PDF file.

In the Services menu there is no 'Send to Outline'.

Hi Steve,

Sorry for being late with the reply!

And you are right, we don't have Outline in Share Extension in Preview.
Instead you can drag&drop the file to your Outline page: you'll be offered to print out the PDF or add it as an attachment.

Or you can send the file using Services as Aleks suggested: go to the folder in Finder where you have this PDF stored > right-click on the PDF file that you want to send > Services > Send to Outline.
The file will be sent as attachment to the page that you have open in Outline.
Here is the screenshot:

Please write if this workaround works for you!

I am not talking about Preview at all. I know I can drop a file into Outline manually. I am taking about using the Share/Sevices menu. When I right click on a file on the desktop I do not see outline listed in the share menu nor do I see send to outline in the services menu.

Ok, I got it!

And what version of Outline do you have?
You can check in Outline > About Outline.
If it's under 3.19, you can update and check the Services again.

And then what OS X do you have?

Everything is up to date and should be the latest versions.

Outline is v3.19.1 (39.191.500).
macOS Sierra v10.12.4.

Thank you for information!

I spoke with the team about this case.
They said that services are generated by the system based on the content you select.
So could you please try to right-click any other files? Maybe even any other PDF files?

You can also send us (to one of the files that don't have "Send to Outline" option in right-click.
We will test it: in case this behaviour is repeatable, we will fix it.

Doesn't matter what type of file I try - no Send to Outline option available. I don't think sending you one of my files would do anything to help figure out why on my system the send to outline does not show up.
Is there anything I can do to debug it here? I am an embedded software engineer. Although I do not work specifically on Mac application software, I do understand Linux (embedded on custom hardware). Otherwise it seems like I am out of luck with that aspect of Outline.

Ok, I spoke with the devs.
They ask if you restarted your machine recently.
If not, you should try as usually restarting the Mac you renew the list of the apps allowed to use Services.

And if it doesn't work, you can check if Outline on your Mac is allowed to use Services.
Here is the screenshot from Settings:

In case everything's right and Outline is switched on in this list, we can give you the link to some Apple documentation.
There is something you can enter in Terminal to renew the list of the Service apps manually.
