Video links on pages

enonod Jan 19, 2018 08:21AM PST

I can drag a video onto a page and run it. The video is stored in the book in a sub folder under the book folder. If the video is then deleted from the page it disappears but remains in the folder in the book storage location, taking massive space. (Problem?)

The alternative is a link to the video. Having filled in the 'word' and the 'path' to a locally stored video, the link does not to work.
However, if an 'Alias' of the video is made, then from 'Getinfo' the 'Original' path is copied and pasted onto the page, the whole path is unfortunately visible, but the link works... sort of.
To make it open the video it must be selected and then right clicked and 'Services/Open' selected. The video now runs from the local drive.

So I am half way there but it is cumbersome.

1. How can this link path be replaced with other text?

2. How can this link be run more simply than the above Service... or get the 'run' to appear on the right click menu directly to shorten the process?

thanks for your questions.

Yes, currently it works this way. The video remains in the folder. To avoid it occasional loss.
Just delete it from the folder if you don't need it any more.

To edit link please CMD+click on it > Edit link.

Does it work for you? Please let me know.

Understand video remaining. OK.

Link does not work with cmd click. It is not a link, it is text containing path to video i.e.

/Volumes/STOCK/!Tut/LJ/How To Change The Speed Of A Clip in FCPX.mp4

I must select text, then right click to get services and then use service OPEN.
It then runs the video from its location on HDD. This way the video is not embedded in the page.

I don't want it embedded because it is then a duplicate of the actual video at 18MB each, when I still need it in its original location for other purposes.

Attempting to create a TRUE link to it does not run the video, simply opens the folder containing it. Then I must locate it and run it.

It would be nice to have a true link that I click on (not select text) and also activates service OPEN in one operation.

Thank you.
