Sync Outline+ with Outline for Mac

Marissa Jul 02, 2013 07:33PM PDT

I have an iPad and have Outline+ for class notes. I want to view these notebooks on my mac, but how do I do this?
From what I can tell I have to go through Skydrive or dropbox first. Is there anyway I can go directly from iPad to Mac? My notes have all been created on Outline+, not on OneNote.

Thanks,
Marissa

Oh, and I did buy both the Outline for Mac from the app store as well as Outline+ for iPad. I just need a way to get the files transferred/synced!

Hi Marissa,
The Mac version doesn't support Skydrive sync yet. It is coming in the nearest update - the version 1.5.
Currently there are 3 ways to get your notebooks accessible for both your devices: Dropbox, Box and iTunes.
Dropbox and Box allow manual and automatic sync. iTunes allows just manual transfer of your files via USB.

If you would like to use Dropbox or Box to back up and sync your notes, please download this software to your Mac.
1. On iPad long tap the cover of your notebook, select Share> Dropbox/ Box.
2. Then login to your web account on www.dropbox.com or www.box.com and see that your files got shared. Your files should also appear on your local Dropbox/ Box folder.
3. On your Mac choose Open notebook> and brows for your files in Dropbox folder on your Mac.

We have tried to summarize facts about cloud services and compare them - http://outline.ws/blog/in-search-of-ideal-cloud-for-onenote-sync/
Probably you'll find this info useful.

If you prefer to transfer your notes avoiding clouds, the only possible option at the moment is iTunes.
1. Your mac must have iTunes installed and be connected with iPad via USB.
2. On iPad long tap the cover of your notebook, select Export> iTunes> Start.
3. On Mas launch iTunes and navigate to your iPad > Apps > File Sharing. Find Outline+ there.
4. The notebook you just exported will be there. Select Save To… to save it on your Mac and open it with Outline for Mac. Don't forget to unzip it.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you need more information.

Hello, I bought Outline+ to my iPad from Apple Store. But when I decided to install Outline+ into my Macbook Air I realized I ought to buy this app again, that's not fair. How can I transfer the Outline+, which I've already bought for my iPad to my Macbok? Thank you.

Hello Denis,

Thank you for contacting us!

If you don`t plan on using Outline for iPad, you can contact Apple support and request a refund.
We do not have our own refund policy that would be different from Apple's as we do not sell apps
directly. The decision to refund solely depends on them.

To use Outline on your Mac you`ll need to purchase it, as there are two separate versions of the app,
one for iPad and one for Mac.

Please feel free to get in touch if you have further questions or comments.

Have a nice day!

Hi Val
I bought the free version of outline and filled it up - using the getting started book. i then bought the outline plus and wanted to transfer this over to the new version. I also bought a mac at the same time and have just bought outline for mac, so you have me on three !
when i follow the instructions to up load the free version folder to iTunes, it up loads but is empty other than the initial instructions on how to use the ap.
i would like to be able to up load this onto the mac then rearrange things (easier on the mac) and then transfer everything onto the outline plus on the iPad.
Can you help out? why is it not up loading properly? is it because its in the getting started book?
Alastair

Alastair,
please transfer sections with your notes into another notebook, and try to export it to iTunes.
Does it work now?

I bought "Outline" online a couple of days ago for Mac. I already had it for iPad and iPhone. The files/folders are not synchronising automatically. I tried to go through the Users Guide. But that did not help. What is the trick?

Hi Jitendra,

Thanks for reaching out!

And you are right, we don't have automatic sync: you are free to keep everything local if you need to.

And here is how you can sync your notebooks:
- If you already have cloud located notebooks just open them in Outline with "+" icon at the top of notebooks pane > Open from <your cloud storage>.
- If you want to sync the new local notebooks you created on Mac, move them to cloud storage:

Please write to me if you have any difficulties.

As my company does not allow me to use any cloud storage I do need another way to keep them in sync.

Hi Katja,
does your company allow / use SharePoint or WebDav?

These are the two only options to sync devices besides clouds.
