Cannot open from backup

Yuetiva Oct 19, 2018 04:41PM PDT

I closed a large notebook that I had imported from Circus Ponies a long time ago and couldn't find it again so I went to my backups (/user/me/Library/Outline/Stores/Backups/Journal/) but every time I try to restore the backup I get an error message "Cannot open notebook from this location. Please select folder on your local hard drive" This is my local hard drive. I've tried copying the backup to my Desktop, but when I try opening that I get an error that I'm trying to open a folder.

I am able to open the .outdoc files in the folders, but there is one for every single page in my notebook (this was a HUGE notebook that I've been using since 2010) and instead of opening these as pages they are all opening as a separate sections. Since Outline does not have a nice way to convert sections to pages, this is not usable for me so I would appreciate a better solution.

Hello Yuetiva,
thank you for your message!
It seems that for some reason the file, that is responsible for opening notebook, got damaged. That is a rare issue and can be fixed the following way:
Create a new notebook in Outline. Close it.
Open the folder that contain this new notebook. You will see a file called open notebook.outtoc there. Copy this file and paste it in the folder, where your huge notebook is.
Now you shall be able to open it in outline as a notebook and not as a single sections.
We sincerely hope it helps. If it doesn't, please drop us a line at support@outline.ws.
Looking forward for your reply!
