How do you create hyperlinks?

Aylwin Jan 13, 2014 03:05AM PST

How do you create hyperlinks in Outline (Mac)? I can't seem to figure it out.

At least I know that Outline can display hyperlinks by opening One Note notebooks. So if it's not currently possible to create them directly in Outline, is there any work around without having to go into One Note?

Hello Aylwin,

Currently hyperlinks cannot be created in Outline.
It can display links created in OneNote and they can be opened.

This feature is in our list. We are going to add it soon.
Your vote for it counted. Thank you!

Val,

Thank you for the response on this feature request, it is something I am looking forward to myself.

My one point I would like to bring up is that Outline+ for the Mac is making hyperlinks in some instances in my notebooks, which are not made in OneNote.

The indication of this weird behavior is available at: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/15318933/hyperlinks_in_outline%2B.png

Please let me know if you need any more information as I think this will be beneficial for the teams prioritization and user story creation.

Kind Regards,
Chris

Chris,
thanks for pointing out this issue and providing example.
May I ask you, what were your steps to create the hyperlink?
What was the difference with the second link?

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Val,

The steps I followed to create the hyperlink are basic typing.

User Story #1: basic www
www.slashdot.org

This result was inconsistent, sometimes it would identify sometimes it wouldn't

User Story #2: http://www.slashdot.org

This one would be a little more consistent, but not a fully qualified url.

if you type in http://www.slashdot.org without a pause in typing, it would get all, but if you would do http://www.<pause>slashdot.org it would only show http://www. as a link.

On unrelated note, is there a way that we can receive email notifications when someone responds to a message?

Kind Regards,
Chris

Val,

Some follow-up to this user story, around creation of hyperlinks.

Pasted information from a website creates links.

Steps to Recreate
1.) Create a new page
2.) Navigate to website: http://www.irs.gov/Businesses/Small-Businesses-%26-Self-Employed/S-Corporations
3.) Copy the first section, up until headline Filing Requirements
4.) Command+v into the outline+ notebook

The 3 links in that section will past successfully to the notebook and be available with properly working links.

Regards,
Chris

Please consider this note an additional request for hyperlinking.
I wrongfully assumed that the ability to hyperlink notes to a main note page (like a wiki, and like OneNote and Evernote) was available as a feature, and is one of the most important aspects of my workflow.
Simply stated, I need this feature to do my work.
I don't think I would have purchased the product if I had known that you cannot create hyperlinks between pages/notes....

Hope the possibility to insert hyperlinks between notes will soon be available. Otherwise Outline lacks an important feature.

If you want to exist in the niche market and want people to support. Please work on Hyperlinks and other important features on priority basis. Or you will be out of the business soon.

Hi Charanjit,

Thanks for reaching out!

Did I get it right that you're talking about the links to notebooks / sections / pages inside Outline?
Or is it about the links to notebook content reachable from outside Outline?

If that's the first option, we have it in the app.
Please write to me if you need my help with finding it.

What about the external links to Outline, could you please describe me how you work with such links?
I will give you the workarounds we have in the app.

You are right, I want the feature about the links to notebooks / sections / pages inside Outline. Like a wiki style. If that feature is there then I need documentation to understand how to achieve this. I do not need the external links now. But please give me suggestions to understand how that feature will be important for me.

Thanks
Charanjit

Charanjit,

Thanks for replying me!

You can look up all the information on the links in Mac Outline in our User Guide > Explore Outline > Mac > Links.
In case you've already deleted it, you can easily restore it: Help > Restore User Guide Notebook.
