It would be brilliant if the inking feature could be improved! For example: - A zoom input panel - Hiding the pens and highlighters when inking - Better inking mechanism (at the moment, inks tend to be slow, angular and it's very difficult to draw a dot for a full stop or the dot of an i) I use inking a lot in OneNote, so it would be amazing if these improvements could be made!
Much more comprehensive inking capability with palm rejection. I use this extensively on my TabletPC, and I would guess many more will now that things like Surface are out. Several iPad apps are now getting this right.
Record audio in conjunction with note taking like Notability does.
Sync with SkyDrive and even better more generically through WebDAV would be excellent. Not everyone uses Dropbox, and many long time OneNote people use SkyDrive.
Tables and To-Do checkbox like other post suggested as well, but in general just keep going on OneNote feature set.
1. Adonit jot pen - shortcuts and preasure implemention 2. Free app for Mac OS - view and edit function for mac (it would be awesome with quicklook option) 3. Better zoom in-out function, option for zooming during drawing 4. Special scientific and math characters (like pi, integral function, upper and lower index) - great for scientist and students ;)
It would make the "Notebook" page much more functional if one had the option of the Notebooks being shown as small icons you can select. If one has a lot of notebooks, scrolling through them as it is now is time consuming and not necessary.
I love your app, but am waiting desperately for Google Drive or Skydrive compatability as neither Dropbox or Box work from my work network. Is there an ETA on when these features will be included? I can't use Outline until this happens.
I would also like to request better support for tables. Ie, to be able to create and edit tables from within outline. I use tables extensively in Onenote, but at the moment I can't manipulate them in outline. Even the ability to add cells or lines would be invaluable.
Finally, would it be possible to be able to collapse the tabs of subnotes so the tabs weren't so cluttered? This would make things easier to navigate when dealing with large numbers of notes.
It would be invaluable to be able to add and edit tables, check boxes, be able to select more than one line of text, and the hand rest for when using the stylus or a zoom box, so the drawing can be made more cleanly, I've found kinda awkward to use the finger for drawing, probably just me, never fitted well with drawing on the iPad just using the finger, still prefer the stylus. Besides that, awesome app, looking forward for the new features! Greeting from Mexico!
For me, it would be a very nice feature, if you could write an import feature into outline+ from emails.
For instance: I send an email with subject "notebook@section@page@<pagename>". This are the parameters for creating a page into outline+, and the email body would be the content of that page. For getting the email, may be it would be a possibility, to create an email address at outline.ws for every outline+ user.
I would love the ability to 'break up' a page - as a student I often import large powerpoint or word files into OneNote and as I take notes in class with my ipad I want to divide them into separate pages (or make bookmarks within the page).
Also, when I am toggling through pages I'd like to go back to the same spot I was before I left the page - for instance, if I'm typing next to slide #102 and want to reference my notes from a separate page, when I come back from reviewing my reference I have to scroll through to find slide #102 again.
I'm loving using the app - keep up the great work!
A simple iPhone reader / editor. I love The app for The iPad but on The move in preperation and grad up for a meeting an iPhone version would be great. Did try mobilenoterSE but i can view what i have done in outliner+ on The iPad ( sync via dropbox)
1. Checkbox support (Create, read, edit, export...) 2. Ability to import a web page from a browser. * This is one of the best features of OneNote, the capturing of full or partial pages (whatever is highlighted, or the entire page). 3. Copy and paste. Specifically, multiple lines of text, entire page content, and the entire page. 4. Page Templates 5. Table support (create, read, edit) 6. Undo function. 7. Zoom for drawing. 8. Picture import from iPad cameras 9. Ability to attach files (docs, spreadsheets, PDFs, etc.)
Having these features would make it much easier for me to forget my Windows laptop, and OneNote. I would like to forget my Windows laptop. Please make this a reality for me! Please!
1. The ability to move pages from one section to another is quite important to me. In a 3-ring binder it would be easy, so I would expect it to be a basic feature of an electronic notebook. 2. Better support for cut-and-paste, such as the ability to copy an entire note, or multiple paragraphs within a note, or an entire page.
I often use my iPad with a keyboard. But, I have problems moving the typing location from one paragraph/bullet to another using the arrow keys. Also, it will not allow me to select text from multiple paragraphs/bullets. This is a major problem for me when needing to copy/paste during editing. Could this issue be adressed in one of the upcoming updates?
Also, my next issue may be a little more complicated. I often need to download PowerPoint files, Word files, and PDFs for my classes. Since Outline Plus does not yet support these files, I have to take snapshots, edit the picture, then insert the picture. One problem I have been having with pictures specifically is that you cannot edit them--appart from resizing the picture. For some of my notes, I need to do further editing within Outline itself; hosever, even a simple copy/paste into a different page does not seem to be applicable. If more edit options--including an undo/redo button (especially for the handwriting feature)--could be added, that would be great!
I very much like Amarganth Jan 24, 2013 05:52AM PST For me, it would be a very nice feature, if you could write an import feature into outline+ from emails. ...
A similar ability would be good for web pages. Right now when I copy material from Safari, Chrome or Opera it gets crunched.
Possibly add the ability to copy and paste a URL into a special purpose Outlook+ page whose sole function would be to facilitate copy and paste of the web pages contents in to a Outline compatible format with paragraph spacing and fonts intact and with graphics intact and separate from the text.
The URL would be for a page from which you wish to copy text. You would then be able to sequentially use selection boxes to copy the text and graphics from the page and have Outlook+ convert it from its HTML form to RTF and graphics. The selection boxes would only copy text that is within their rectangular boundaries and ignore text adjacent to them. I frequently find when I am copying and pasting text that the copy function will erroneously copy HTML text and graphics from adjacent areas. The sequentially copied text and graphics would then be available, as a whole, in the sequence in which you copied it, when you are done. You could then transfer this "copy and paste" data in to a conventional Outline+ note. I believe there are a few open source tools on source forge that you could model your algorithms after to trim out the excess HTML code.
An advanced copy and paste feature this special page could have is the ability to be told when the rectangular selection box is copying a table. Then, the user could, if necessary, copy a column at a time and specify whether to bring in empty cells. NOAA and other government agencies frequently place data tables on the internet which are incredibly difficult to copy without a feature like this. However, they are very useful for documenting where the data you are using comes from and what it consists of.
This would greatly enhance the ability of Outline+ to serve as a data gathering tool for research and for students and academics.
Hi, your app is wonderful and very organized, but you are lacking the select all options. I would appreciate if you guys can add this feature. Right now, i could only copy one line instead of the whole text box. It will be a hassle to copy line by line if i have a whole chunk of notes.
Hi all, great app. Good to see someone creating a OneNote app better than Microsoft can.
1. How about an iPhone reader. 2. Can't wait for the Mac reader. 3. Would love to be able to change the order of my notebooks. 4. Would love to have a favorites toolbar on the main/first view. That way I don't need to open a random notebook just to get to my favorites which will take me to a different notebook. 5. Could you allow coloring of the page tabs on the left hand side? Or a different color per indentation? 6. How to I have my text that looks like this: http://blah.com become a link? If I enter it in OneNote, then view it in Outline+ then Outline+ renders it as a hyper link, but not if I entered it from Outline+. Am I missing something here?
When I touch the screen to move the text in my document up and down or side to side, the motion is very erratic. Look at the Kindle app on the iPad when you view a PDF file that sent to your Kindle account. First open your PDF document, then zoom in. If you move your finger up and down, the document is rock steady side to side, but moves smoothly up and down. If you move your finger side to side, the document is rock steady up and down and moves smoothly side to side. If you move your finger diagonally or in a circular motion, now the document moves freely like outline+ moves even when you are just trying to go up and down. IMHO, that would be a better user experience for your great Outline+ app.
Please add the follogwing three basics function to your app:
1. syncing through Skydrive (MUST because otherwise I cannot buy it as I am not allowed to snyc through dropbox or iTunes at work). 2. bullet points and tags (e.g. To Do, Projet)need to be selectable 3. Copy-Paste function would also be very useful.
Thank you for considering my preferences. Especially point 1, as I cannot use it without this functionallity.
Please indicate a timeframe when the mentioned functionalities will be available.
Hi Terguno, we expect SkyDrive to appear by the end of the month, along with proper text copying, you can already create a bullet points in Outline and tags are coming up later in one of the next updates!
The cut and copy is really a hassle. I can get a word to highlight just fine, but as soon as I use the little blue dots to specify what text I want highlighted to cut or copy it, I'm stopped from going beyond a single line. For example:
Apple Orange Lemon
If I wanted to highlight this whole list to copy it into another page, I would click over apple, but when I would try to drag the highlight box down over orange and lemon, it would stop me. I can only highlight one line at a time. This could be a problem with just mine, but I don't think so. It would be a HUGE help if I could highlight all three lines at once. Also, it would help if when I had my keyboard hooked up to my ipad if I could use my up and down arrows to navigate through text. Thanks! I really am loving this app.
More bullet point and numbering choices. Like either, an empty circle, a square, a tick - having these choices is important to me so then it will look similar to my OneNote file when I open it on my computer.
You can add: 1. Tables 2. Add math/chemistry/scientific formulas and symbols 3. Superscript and subscript 4. Audio recording linked with text 5. Support up and down arrows from bluetooth keyboard 6. More keyboard shortcut (for bold, italic, underlined ... ) 7. Customized bar
for the OSX version - i think the inner selected tabs (on the left) should be white (with the others dark blue / or another color). It's confusing to have them all white - and the 'on state' be blue (looks like it's off) - this is esp apparent when only one, two or a few tabs exist.
Outline sureley is the best OneNote-compatible App for iOS Devices, but for business use cases the lack of WebDAV or similar methods for connecting internal servers is a big drawback.
In companies it is often prohibited to use public cloud services like DropBox, SkyDrive etc., so there is the need for syncing Outline with internal Servers, e.g. via a very common protocol like WebDAV.
So the implementation of WebDAV would be a great improvement.
Please support the Cregle iPen2 - is this planned?
I currently use Onenote on a jurassic windows laptop and persist because of the precision stylus. To migrate to Outline for iPad, I would need Skydrive support (which you're working on) and a precision stylus with palm rejection. In the absence of Apple making one, the iPen2 seems like the next best thing, but requires app developers to support their configuration app.
Also, keyboard shortcuts would be helpful for us BlueTooth Keyboard users. cmd + b = bold, cmd + i = italics, shift + arrow keys = highlight, etc. These would make typing notes in class MUCH quicker! :)
1. Open in PDF files in outline so that we can insert PDF files in our notes but not only photos. 2. More features about handwriting. 3. Fully compatible with onenote handwriting editing. In this case, handwriting in outline will be greatly matched with advanced handwriting editing functions in Onenote.
Of course, I am looking forward to the skydrive support. Thank you for your efforts.
In Microsoft Onenote, I can select an image (imported PDF) and when I type the text will immediately appear underneath the image, whilst also pushing the rest of the imported PDFs down. At the moment, I'm not able to do either of that and when I create a textbox it'll just type over the image below which doesn't help with my note-taking in Uni. There should be two distinct ways of creating texts like in the Microsoft Onenote, where you can either type and have text appear under the image, or manually create a textbox to place over the image. I hope you guys can fix this in an update, as it'll improve productivity.
It is a great app you have developed. But there is always room for improvement :). I am currently using my tablet as an important tool and lab-book in life sciences, and Outline has a lot of potential and nice features for this purpose.
- My main concern with using this app is that I cannot import other files than images . It would be very neat if you could import/insert other files from your dropbox folder, e.g. doc, ppt and xls. Just converting and inserting them as a pdf would be great! For now, I am stuck with GoodNotes to do that. In the long hall it would be great also be able to edit the inserted object.
- Another option could be just to be able to attach files to your notes
- Insertion of tables is also a feature that would improve your application a lot
- Zoom for drawing
- Support for other clouds than Dropbox
- Better management for inserting texts and pictures on top of each other.
This is a *great* app. Like others, I'd like to see improvements in two areas - metadata management and import/export. IMO, the most important feature of this app it to capture and manage the thousands of bits of information we use every day. In other words, replicate ALL of the functions of Microsoft OneNote.
Metadata management means categorizing entries in mutiple different ways. For example, adding flags and code words for each entry. And then filter on those entries. A checkable check box is critical to keep track of steps in a project. +/- buttons to collapse and expand a hierarchical list.
For import/export, one critical addition is the ability to cut and paste hyperlinks. Perhaps I've missed it, but one constant frustration I've had is the inability to copy a link from Safari and then paste a live link into an Outline+ note. Yes, I understand that a OneNote-created note with link can be imported as a link. I want to create the link on my iPad.
One other area that needs improvement or at least documentation is moving notes and sections from one section to another and from one notebook to another.
Outlook Integration and/or AppleScript Dictionary and Support.
One of the most powerful capabilities of OneNote is in its ability to integrate seamlessly with Microsoft Outlook, storing links between meetings, tasks, emails, and more to OneNote notes. This allows for the easy locating of meeting notes by clicking a button from the original Outlook meeting, and importing of meeting details into the OneNote note.
In order to more effectively serve as a replacement for Microsoft Onenote, when Outliner gains editing capabilities, it should also gain links into Microsoft Outlook for Mac. Failing that, a full Applescript dictionary could be created that would allow for AppleScripts to be used to create integrations between various tools, including Outlook, Mail.app, Pages, Excel, etc. and Outliner.
